HAYWARD -- The Spooner Cardinals defeated the Lake Superior Sea Dogs, 10-0, in a WBA Playoffs baseball game at Larry Somerville Field on Sunday. The game was called with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning due to the 10-run rule.
Spooner scored three runs on three hits and two Sea Dogs errors in the first innng. The score remained 3-0 until the fifth when the Cardinals scored two more runs on two hits and two errors. A three-run sixth broke the game open, and Spooner plated single runs in the seventh and eighth to reach the 10-run margin.
Lake Superior had two hits, backt-to-back singles by Eric Hinnenkamp and Corbin Taylor, with two outs in the fourth.
Winning pitcher Trevor Brimblecom tossed a complete game. He allowed two walks and had seven strikeouts in eight innngs.
Josh Davidson, Sam Holden, and Brandon Rangel had two hits apiece in Spooner's 12-hit attack.
Jake Lewis (3-4, 1.97 ERA) took the loss. He allowed four earned runs on 11 hits and one walk with two strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings.
Spooner, which had defeated Jim Falls, 4-3, on Saturday, won the three-team pool and advances to next weekend's WBA State Tournament.
Lake Superior went 1-1 in the WBA Playoffs and finished its season with a 7-6 overall record.
