BRUCE -- The Tony Hayshakers defeated the Lake Superior Sea Dogs, 2-0, in an Upper 13 League baseball game here on Sunday.

Zach Roach and Bryce Meverden combined on the four-hit shutout. Roach, the winning pitcher, allowed two hits, five walks, and one hit batsman with nine strikeouts in six innings. Meverden picked up the save with three innings of work. He allowed two hits, one walk, and two hit batsmen with one strikeout.

Tony scored both runs in the sixth inning. Nate Roach led off by getting hit by a pitch. He stole second and scored on an RBI single by Meverden. Meverden advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on an RBI single by Ben Kopzac.

Losing pitcher Jake Lewis (1-1, 1.93 ERA) struck out 19 batters. Lewis, who had 17 strikeouts last Sunday at Glidden, broke his own previous club record of 18 strikeouts set in 2019. He allowed two runs on four hits, one walk, and two hit batsmen in seven innings.

Reliever Eric Hinnenkamp retired the side in order with two strikeouts in the eighth inning.

Meverden had two of Tony's four hits. Tony is now 4-0 in the Upper 13 League.

Noah Hobbs hit a double for Lake Superior, now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the Upper 13 League.

Defensive substitute Anthony Bush played in his 150th game for the Sea Dogs, which tied the club record for career games played set by Corey Pavlich from 2007-15. Bush has 225 games played in his career that began in 1996 with Superior's Bayside Vipers. He is the only active Sea Dogs player from the club's inagural 2007 season.
