SUPERIOR -- The Lake Superior Sea Dogs defeated the Ashland Merchants, 6-4, in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Morrie Arnovich Field on Sunday. It was the regular season finale for both teams.

The Sea Dogs' Owen Hindermann scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning. He reached base on an error, advanced two bases on a fielder's choice error, and scored when Taavi Mattson reached on an error with two outs.

Lake Superior took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by Alex Busick and Eric Hinnenkamp, with Busick scoring on Hinnenkamp's hit.

The Sea Dogs built a 5-0 lead with three runs in the fifth on two hits, two walks, a stolen base, two wild pitches, and one Ashland error.

Ashland scored three runs in the eighth on three hits and one Sea Dogs error.

Lake Superior added an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Sam Larson.

Ashland threatened with a run on three hits, all with two outs, in the ninth before Hindermann entered in relief with two runners on base and recorded a three-pitch strikeout for the save.

Hinnenkamp (1-2, 5.95 ERA), the winning pitcher, allowed three earned runs on nine hits and zero walks with 13 strikeouts in eight and two-thirds innings.

Busick and Brock McDermid had two hits apiece and Hinnenkamp had two RBI for Lake Superior.

Xander Parduhn batted 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Ashland. He also pitched all eight innings and allowed one earned run on eight hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts.

Ashland posted a 3-7 league record. Lake Superior finished the regular season with a 6-4 league record (6-5 overall).
