HAYWARD -- The Eau Claire Bears defeated the Lake Superior Sea Dogs, 5-2, in the WBA Playoffs here on Saturday, August 14.

The Sea Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the first when Conner Fonger scored on Alex Busick's RBI single.

Eau Claire tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the fifth, went ahead, 3-1, with a two-run sixth, and made it 4-1 with a run in the seventh.

Busick scored on John Sopiwnik's RBI groundout in the seventh to cut the lead to 4-2.

Eau Claire tacked on an insurance run in the ninth for the 5-2 final.

Winning pitcher Chevy Tollefson worked the first seven innings and Tyler Gray tossed two relief stanzas for the save. Tollefson allowed two runs on nine hits, one walk, and two hit batsmen with one strikeout. Gray allowed one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Josh Halling had three hits and two runs to pace Eau Claire. Alex Jinkins, Sam Janni, and Jim Thill each had two hits. Janni had two RBI.

Fonger and Busick had two hits apiece.

Losing pitcher Jake Lewis went the distance. He allowed four earned runs on 14 hits, three walks, and one hit batsman with five strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs faced Whittlesey later in the day.

The Eau Claire vs. Whittlesey game will be played on Sunday, August 15, at Hayward to complete play for the three-team pool.
