SUPERIOR -- The Lake Superior Sea Dogs defeated the Ashland Merchants in two Upper 13 League baseball games at Morrie Arnovich Field on Sunday. Lake Superior won the first game, 5-2, and the second game, rescheduled from a rainout on May 23, by a score of 14-2.

Jake Lewis (3-0, 2.67 ERA) earned the win in the first game. He tossed all seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits and zero walks with 10 strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1. Seth Anderson hit a two-run double and Alex Busick followed with a sacrifice fly.

Zach Gunderson's two-run single in the third made the score 5-0.

Braden Farley batted 3-for-4 with a double and two runs and Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBI to lead the Sea Dogs. 

Bob Tyndall hit a two-run double in the fourth for Ashland's runs.

Earl Kraft was the losing pitcher. He allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Ashland was the home team for Game 2.

The Sea Dogs went ahead in the top of the first as Conner Fonger and Anderson scored when Isaac Fugere reached on an error.

Lake Superior plated four runs in the second frame for a 6-0 lead. Alex Busick had the inning's bit hit, a two-run triple. Braden Farley and Anderson also had RBI hits.

Joe Seeger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kraft hit a sacrifice fly as Ashland cut the lead to 6-2 in the third.

The Sea Dogs answered with a four-run third that featured RBI hits by Farley, Busick, and Justin Sedin.

After a solo run in the fifth, Lake Superior plated three more runs in the seventh on RBI hits by Gunderson, Jacob Becks, and Fonger.

Mitch Kruger (2-0, 3.86 ERA) picked up the win in relief of starter Fugere. Kruger worked three shutout innings and allowed zero hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Fugere allowed two runs on four hits, a walk, and a hit batsman in three innings. He had two strikeouts. Anderson tossed the seventh and allowed one hit and one walk before retiring the side with three strikeouts.

Farley, Busick, and Anderson had two hits apiece for Lake Superior. Anderson had three RBI.

Lake Superior is now 6-2 and Ashland drops to 5-3 in league play.
