GLIDDEN -- The Lake Superior Sea Dogs defeated the Glidden Orioles, 14-8, in an Upper 13 League baseball game on Saturday.
The Sea Dogs scored five runs in the first, one in the second, and two in the third for an 8-0 lead. Peter Atiemo's three-run home run in the fifth gave the visitors an 11-1 edge. Glidden scored three runs in the ninth to close the scoring.
Atiemo batted 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored, and three RBI. Lake Superior's Seth Anderson also had three RBI. He batted 2-for-4 with two runs. The Sea Dogs' Don Miller was 3-for-5 with a run. Kyle Bellin was 2-for-4 with three runs; Kevin Hendrickx was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI; Jesse Olson was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI; and Jake Lewis was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Olson, the winning pitcher, allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and two walks with one strikeout in nine innings.
Jayden Eder was 3-for-5 with two runs for Glidden. Cole Bay, Sam Zielke, and Kyle McFadden all contributed two hits for the Orioles. McFadden scored three runs and Cole Bay had three RBI.
Losing pitcher Hunter Bay allowed 10 earned runs on 14 hits and seven walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.
Lake Superior is now 7-2 in league games. They conclude the regular season on Sunday, July 28, with a home game against the Ashland Merchants at 1:30 p.m. at Superior's Morrie Arnovich Field. Glidden is now 3-6 in league play.
