RIB LAKE, Wis. — The Sea Dogs defeated Whittlesey in the first round of the 70th annual Wisconsin Baseball Association (WBA) Playoffs here on Saturday night.

Winning pitcher Jake Lewis allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in seven and one-third innings. Seth Anderson earned the save by pitching one and two-thirds innings with no runs on one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Lake Superior tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the first on RBI singles by Michael Karp and Sam Lehman.

The Sea Dogs went ahead 4-2 in the second. Derrick Winn singled with two outs and advanced to third on a double by Conor Wollenzien. Both runners scored when Chris Olson reached on an error.

Losing pitcher Brandon Loertshor allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in three innings pitched. Reliever Cody Loertshor threw five shutout innings. He allowed four hits and had eight strikeouts.

Winn, Wollenzien, and Karp had two hits apiece for Lake Superior.

Nick Meyer and Darren Leonard each had three hits for Whittlesey.

The Sea Dogs advance to play against the Hudson River Rats at Rib Lake on Sunday at 3pm. The winner moves on to the finals weekend, Aug. 17-19, at Osseo, Wisconsin.

Hudson defeated the Marshfield Chapparals, 14-8, earlier on Saturday.
