SUPERIOR -- The Hibbing Miners scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to defeat the Lake Superior Sea Dogs in a non-league amateur baseball game at Morrie Arnovich Field on Tuesday night.

In the eighth, Joe Lescarbeow led off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Joe Kanipes, and scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Zack Deboom. The Miners scored the go-ahead run in the ninth when Jeff Korpi led off with a walk, moved up two bases on wild pitches, and scored on Trevor Bernsdorf's RBI single with two outs.

Deboom earned the win in relief of starter Dan Wood. Deboom worked four innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Kole Zuidmulder walked three in the ninth but escaped unscathed for the save. He had two strikeouts. Wood pitched the first four innings and allowed one run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. The three pitchers combined on a two-hitter.

Hibbing took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on one hit, a lead-off double by Ricardo Paris, two walks, a hit batsman, and a passed ball.

Lake Superior cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth on a walk and two Hibbing errors.

The Sea Dogs took the lead, 3-2, with two runs in the fifth on two walks, a hit batsman, and an error.

Losing pitcher Michael Gales allowed one run on one hit and one walk in one inning pitched. Seth Anderson started for the Sea Dogs and allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts in eight innings.

Lescarbeow and Dylan Mattson had two hits apiece for Hibbing. Paris, Zuidmulder, and Lescarbeow each hit a double.

Chris Olson and Blake Bergquist each singled for Lake Superior's hits.
