HIBBING --

by Max Mercy

The Hibbing Miners defeated the Duluth Padres 10-0 in a non-league game shortened to seven innings due to the 10-run rule at Al Nyberg Field. Dan Pellinen, who was drafted by Cleveland in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft last week, hit a walk-off two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory for the Miners.

Duluth was held to just two hits by Hibbing pitchers Matt Erickson and Steve Erickson. Matt Erickson was the winning pitcher. He  allowed two hits and one walk with eight strikeouts in five innings. Greg Schullo and Bob Baxton had Duluth's hits.

Losing pitcher Jesse Olson allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks in three-and-one-third innings.

Pellinen and Max Butler had two hits apiece for Hibbing.

Duluth snapped a five-game winning streak and is now 5-4 overall (3-0 in Upper 13 League). This weekend, the Padres host the Exeland Braves at Wade Stadium on Saturday in a non-league game and host the Ashland Merchants on Sunday at Duluth East High School field on Sunday in an Upper 13 League game. Both games start at 1:30 p.m.
