The Duluth Padres defeated the Spooner Cardinals, 5-1, in a non-league game at Exeland, Wis., in the middle game of a three-team round-robin tournament with the Exeland Braves.
Winning pitcher Anthony Bush (3-1, 2.18 ERA) threw four shutout innings and left with a 1-0 lead. Jake Lewis pitched the final three innings for the save. Bush allowed four hits and no walks with one strikeout. Lewis allowed one run on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Greg Schullo drove in Mike Lewis with a single for Duluth's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryan McCarthy's single scored Nick Moran and Harley Hazel's double knocked in McCarthy in the fifth. Tim Nylund and Moran added RBI singles in the sixth.
McCarthy had two hits in his amateur baseball debut to lead Duluth.
