SUPERIOR -- The Duluth-Superior Dukes and the Chequamegon Cardinals split an Upper 13 League doubleheader on Sunday at Morrie Arnovich Field.

In the first game, the Cardinals' Caleb Armstrong blanked the Dukes on a two-hitter. He had eight strikeouts and 10 walks.

Henry Rauschenback scored on Justin Herbst's RBI single in the fourth for Chequamegon.

Losing pitcher Michael Gales went three and one-third innings. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Duluth-Superior's Jake Lewis (4-4 W-L, 2.65 ERA) tossed a three-hit shutout in the second game. Lewis had 11 strikeouts and one walk.

Bob Baxton's sacrifice fly scored Travis Bartlett in the fourth for a 1-0 lead.

Bartlett delivered a two-run double in the fifth, and Kevin Hendrickx added a two-run single in the sixth.
 

Hendrickx and Bartlett had two hits apiece.

Losing pitcher Justin Herbst allowed three runs on four hits and four walks in five innings. He had four strikeouts.

Duluth-Superior finished the Upper 13 League regular season with an 8-4 record and second place in the standings behind the Ashland Merchants (10-2). Chequamegon finished third in the league, at 7-5.

The teams await the results of tomorrow's Wisconsin Baseball Association playoffs seeding meeting to find out if they qualified for the 68th annual WBA Playoffs. The seeding meeting begins at 7pm at the Hallie Eagles Club in Chippewa Falls.
