PROCTOR -- The Duluth-Superior Dukes defeated the Washburn Lumberjacks, 6-3, in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Terry Egerdahl Field in Proctor.
Winning pitcher Jake Lewis (1-3 W-L, 3.90 ERA) allowed two earned runs on six hits and no walks with eight strikeouts in seven innings. Colton Godbout pitched two scoreless innings for the save.
Travis Bartlett was 3-for-3 with two RBI, Jimmy Merling was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Mike Lewis was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI, and Zach Veno had two RBI for the Dukes.
John Sopiwnik, Dan Romano, and Matt Draeger were each 2-for-4 for Washburn. Draeger had two doubles and two RBI.
Losing pitcher David Barningham allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks in three innings. He had two strikeouts. Sopiwnik tossed five shutout innings of relief.
Duluth-Superior improved to 1-2 in league play and 3-7 overall. Washburn dropped to 1-3 in league games.
