PARK FALLS, Wis. -- The Chequamegon Cardinals exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to expand their 3-2 lead and take the win, 8-3, against the Duluth-Superior Dukes in a non-league amateur baseball game at Park Falls on Saturday. The big seventh included a two-run home run by Jake Herbst.
Herbst, the winning pitcher, allowed one earned run on five hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings. He was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI at the plate.
Justin Herbst was 3-for-4 with two runs and Caleb Armstrong was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Cardinals.
Anthony Bush (5-1, 1.69 ERA) was tagged with the loss. Bush allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts. The Dukes were trailing 2-1 when he was lifted for a reliever after five innings pitched.
Trenton Moe was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for the Dukes, who finish their regular season with an overall record of 14-9.
The WBA Playoffs seeding meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Hallie, Wisconsin.
