Padres 5, Ashland Merchants 2

DULUTH -- The Duluth Padres defeated the Ashland Merchants 5-2 in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Bulldog Park on Sunday.

Winning pitcher Anthony Bush (2-0, 0.90 ERA) pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits and two walks. He had four strikeouts. Matt Chruscielski pitched two and two-thirds of scoreless relief, and Jesse Olson picked up the save by pitching the final inning and one-third.

Duluth's Bob Baxton was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Losing pitcher Bobby Tyndall tossed a four-hitter in a complete game effort. He allowed two earned runs with six walks and six strikeouts.

Scott Ekstrom was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Ashland (0-1).

Duluth (1-0 league, 2-2 overall) travels to Haugen, Wis., on Sat. to face the Haugen Knights in a non-league game.
