HAUGEN, Wis.-- The Duluth Padres defeated the Haugen Hornets 12-4 in a non-league amateur baseball game Sunday at Haugen.

Winning pitcher Anthony Bush (1-0, 0.00 ERA) allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks in five innings with two strikeouts. Reliever Matt Chruscielski pitched the final four frames for the save. He allowed three runs on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. He had three strikeouts.

Duluth led 8-2 through seven and one-half innings, but Haugen pulled to within 8-4 and had the tying run at bat in the eighth inning. Duluth tacked on four runs in the ninth.

Duluth's Corey Pavlich was 4-for-6 with three runs. Chruscielski was 2-for-6 with two runs, a double, and three RBIs. Bob Baxton was 1-for-3 with three runs, a double, and two RBIs, and Kevin Hendrickx was 1-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Haugen's Greg Aune was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Doug Hoff was 3-for-4 with one run, and Ben Larson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Hoff was the losing pitcher in relief of starter Justin Everson, who allowed one run on one hit and two walks in three innings with three strikeouts. Hoff allowed three runs on five walks in one-third of an inning.

It was the season-opening game for both clubs.

Duluth (1-0) next travels to Cumberland, Wis., on Sunday, May 6, for a 1:00 p.m. non-league game against the Cumberland Islanders.
