ASHLAND -- The Ashland Merchants defeated the Proctor Padres in an Upper 13 League game at Pufall Field. It was the first league game of the season for both teams. All three of Ashland's runs were unearned. They scored one run in the second inning on one hit and two errors, and two runs in the fifth inning on four hits and one error.

Proctor was limited to five hits: singles by Kyle Cotrell, Charlie Habermann, and [Zack Bauers], and doubles by Jon Kent and Tim Nylund.

Losing pitcher Anthony Bush (0-3, 1.64 ERA, 22.0 IP) allowed three unearned runs on nine hits and one walk in seven innings. He had five strikeouts. Bob Baxton picked up two strikeouts in one inning of scoreless relief pitching.
