Lake Superior Sea Dogs 8, Port Wing Boilers 3

Game 3 -- Sun., Aug. 24 -- Proctor 8, Port Wing 3
The Proctor Padres earned the Consolation Championship in their first appearance in the Casey Gazdik Memorial Tournament in Solon Springs, Wis., as they defeated the Port Wing Boilers in a seven-inning baseball game Sunday. The Boilers were a hodge-podge of players from Port Wing, Oulu, and St. Croix. Proctor had its own ringer: first baseman Steve Basty was on loan from the Blooming Valley Devils, who were borrowing him from the Exeland Braves for the Gazdik Tournament. Proctor's offense came alive right away, as the Padres amassed six runs on six hits in the top of the first inning, capped by Basty's three-run double. Anthony Bush earned the win; he allowed two runs on three hits and two walks in five innings. Bush had four strikeouts. Joe Collier allowed one unearned run in two innings of relief. Basty, Collier, Alan Schmidt, Nick Koubsky, and Dan Solarz all had two hits apiece for Proctor. Basty had four RBI. St. Croix's Rich Hailey had two hits and two RBI for Port Wing.
