Lake Superior Sea Dogs

Recap for the 07/22/2008 game @ Hibbing Miners

Preview Recap
Hibbing Miners 7, Lake Superior Sea Dogs 3

The Hibbing Miners defeated the Proctor Padres 7-3 in a nonleague baseball game at Hibbing. The Padres out-hit the Miners, but again the Padres' defense caused an early deficit.

Proctor scored a run in the top of the first inning as Alan Schmidt led off with a walk, advanced to second on a Nick Koubsky sacrifice bunt, stole third, and scored on a groundout by Joe Collier.  Hibbing scored four runs in the bottom of the first, as the first two batters reached on errors.

Schmidt doubled with two outs and Koubsky drove him in with a single for a run in the third inning, but Hibbing put one on the board in their half of the third on a double, passed ball and sacrifice fly. Hibbing left the bases loaded when Proctor's shortstop Schmidt made a leaping catch in shallow left field to end the inning. The Miners added two more runs in the fourth when Proctor made two errors on the same play.

Proctor starting pitcher Nick Koubsky (2-4 W-L, 5.18 ERA) took the loss, allowing one earned run in four innings. He allowed three hits, but had five walks. Schmidt and Collier combined on four scoreless innings of relief, with each pitching two innings. Neither allowed a hit, but Schimidt walked four and Collier three.

Schmidt and Koubsky had two hits apiece.

Proctor will be in Ashland on Sunday for their final league game. They play the second-place Ashland Merchants at 1:30.  The Padres will end their regular season on Tuesday as they travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Itasca Indians.
