DULUTH -- The Duluth Dukes defeated the Port Wing Boilers, 8-2, in an Upper 13 League game at Wade Stadium on Friday night. Corey Pavlich put Duluth ahead 3-2 with a two-run single in the Dukes' five-run seventh inning.
Winning pitcher Jake Lewis went eight innings and allowed two unearned runs on seven hits, three walks, and a hit batsman. He had 11 strikeouts. Jesse Olson pitched a perfect ninth inning in relief.
Duluth's Jimmy Merling was 4-for-4 and Cody Dolsen was 3-for-3. Pavlich was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, and Evan Scherber was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Port Wing's Jared Gustafson was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Losing pitcher Derek Jardine pitched six complete innings and allowed three runs on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. He had five strikeouts.
Duluth improved to 5-1 in the Upper 13 (7-11 overall). Port Wing is now 3-6 in the Upper 13.
