08/03/2023 - Sea Dogs Qualify for WBA Playoffs

The Lake Superior Sea Dogs qualified for the 2023 WBA (Wisconsin Baseball Association) Playoffs.

The WBA met in Eau Claire for its annual playoffs seeding meeting on Tuesday evening. The Sea Dogs received the 18th seed in the 36-team field and were placed in a three-team pool with the #31 Jim Falls Sturgeons and the #7 Spooner Cardinals. The team will travel to Hayward on August 12 for a 4:00 p.m. tilt vs. Jim Falls. The loser will play vs. Spooner at 7:00 p.m. on August 12 while the winner plays vs. Spooner at 4:00 p.m. on August 13, also in Hayward.

The winner of the pool advances to the WBA Finals weekend, August  15-17, in Eau Claire.

The Sea Dogs, 6-4 in the Upper 13 League, will make their third consecutive and 11th overall WBA Playoffs appearance in the club's 17-year existence. They are led by pitcher/first baseman/outfielder Eric Hinnenkamp (.452 AVG, 14 hits, 14 RBI), outfielder Alex Busick (.385, 15, 15), shortstop Corbin Taylor (.324, 11, 10), outfielder Blake Imhoff (.588, 10, 4) and pitchers Jake Lewis (3-3 W-L, 1.44 ERA) and Hinnenkamp (1-1, 2.70).

The Sea Dogs are managed by Anthony Bush.

The other Upper 13 League teams participating in the WBA Playoffs are the league champion #6 Washburn Sharptails, #13 Tony Hayshakers, #25 Glidden Orioles, and #33 Iron City Miners.
