The co-recipients of the the Dukes 2016 Rookie of the Year Award are Brendan Burnap and Michael Gales.
Burnap batted .316 in 11 games. He played first base, third base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions, but his best work was at the "hot corner," third base, where he made eight assists. Burnap's pinch-hit single keyed a late-inning surge for insurance runs in the final game of the regular season, a 6-0 win vs. Chequamegon, that catapulted the Dukes into their fifth straight WBA Playoffs berth.
Gales, a pitcher/outfielder, batted .304 in 13 games, with two multi-hit games. He was 1-3 W-L with one save and a 5.24 ERA in 22 and 1/3 innings pitched over nine appearances. He also displayed fine outfield play with diving and deep-gap catches.
